CYQ Level 2 Certificate
Instructing Health Related Exercise for Children Certificate

Give Your Career the edge – get qualified?

Children’s fitness has become increasingly important and is a rapidly growing area within the Health & Fitness Industry. Many Health Clubs, Leisure Centre, schools and Instructors run exercise classes and after school clubs for children.

It’s hoped that this qualification will set a benchmark for industry standards, providing Instructors who are equipped with the knowledge, understanding and skills to plan and teach safe, fun and effective classes that inspire and motivate children to participate regularly in fitness activities.

Becoming qualified

Assessment is both practical and theory.

A practical assessment allows you the opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and teaching skills for a group of children aged either 5-11 or 12 to 16 year olds. The theory assessment covers both age ranges.

NB: It is a requirement when working with children to have a Criminal Records Bureau check. For more details call the Disclosure Application Line on 0870 90 90 844.

Once qualified you could:

  • Work in a Children’s Fitness Studio in a Health Club or Leisure Centre, or run an after school club

  • Increase your earning potential through this rapidly growing area of fitness

  • Increase your Club’s income by knowing how existing equipment and resources could be used to run Children’s exercise and fitness classes

  • Get bonuses for setting up new programmes and if you’re a Personal Trainer you may gain new clients for family inclusive fitness

On a wider level, parents will hopefully gain some reassurance that their children are participating in monitored activities in a safe and fun environment, whilst learning about their bodies and how to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Learn

Through this qualification, you’ll learn about:

  • The anatomical and physiological changes that take place in children

  • And explore exercise for children at different growth stages

  • A range of class structures

  • Aspects of child psychology/motivation

  • Nutrition in relation to children

  • Safety and potential contra-indications

  • The OFSTED standards individuals are required to meet if they are to work with children

The qualification is supported with a comprehensive manual that can be purchased via your study centre.

Entry requirements

Although not essential, it is recommended that you have some experience of working with children and an interest in the Health and Fitness Industry.

Once qualified, for a small donation, you’ll have the chance to receive a Children’s Activity Pack produced by the British Heart Foundation, supplied via CYQ. This superb resource could prove invaluable to you and includes task cards showing 100s of development exercises, dance and rhythmic activities.

Personal Training/Life Coaching

Have you tried gyms, tried to lose weight but with little success.

Do you lack motivation and drive. Whether you are looking to train for a marathon or just want to get fit and do not know where to start then Personal Fitness Training is for you.

Personal Training sessions are booked in blocks of 6 or 10 sessions. Personal training falls into two different categories personal training/life coaching and personal fitness training. You will be selected an appropriate trainer according to your needs. During your first consultation your personal trainer will go through a detailed medical/physical assessment questionnaire to determine any medical conditions you may have, look at your goals and what you are looking to achieve in your personal exercise plan. We will then plan some training dates and times to meet and work out with you motivating you and encouraging you all the way.

Thermostretch - Profile

Derived from Bikram Yoga

Hot yoga was developed in the 1960’s. Thermostretch is a method which lasts 90 minutes and is performed in a heated room up to 100 degrees thus enhancing muscle suppleness. All levels of fitness ability work together, learning to work as deeply as the body will allow.

Thermostretch is a demanding 28 pose series which allows you to work deep into your muscles, tendons and ligaments to challenge your body from the inside out. The class is designed for first time beginners as well as experienced students. You will learn to focus your mind and control your breath, leading you to work harder, deeper and calmer, increase your concentration and determination.
