What
is Stress Management?
Stress
is an inevitable part of life - whether we have a high powered executive
job or the hassle of the daily commute to and from work, or babies
who won't stop crying or concerns over deteriorating health - The
causes of stress are something that hardly anyone can escape, yet
the medical profession tells us that stress can be a silent, deadly
killer.
Under
stress, the body produces the hormones, cortisol and adrenaline,
which change the heart rate, blood pressure and metabolism to prepare
the body for our genetically conditioned response of "fight
or flight". Yet in normal life we can hardly run away from
the office or wrestle the boss into submission, so the body does
not get rid of excess hormones, resulting in unproductive, or harmful,
stress.
A
great danger with stress, is that we are often completely unaware
of it and untreated, long term, continual stress can manifest itself
in depression, anxiety, heart disease, palpitations, ulcers, headaches
or irregularities in the menstrual cycle. Allergic reactions may
also be triggered by stress.
Fortunately
doctors are starting to become more sympathetic towards the problem.
Whereas the old tendency was to either dismiss the question entirely
or to fob the patient off with tranquillisers, many doctors are
now suggesting that patients learn self-help techniques or undertake
Stress Management therapy including Hypnotherapy, NLP and Meditation
to deal successfully with the condition.
Stress
Management therapy includes a combination of learning ways of dealing
stress combined with some deeply relaxing processes both at a physical
end emotional level.

How
is a session conducted?
After
a detailed assessment, the practitioner, together with the client,
formulates a plan which may include a number of therapeutic techniques,
some physical, such as massage, and some at a non-physical level
such as Hypnotherapy, Counselling and Meditation.

How
many sessions will be needed?
Since
the emphasis is upon the client learning to be self-dependent, the
number of sessions should be low - usually no more than 5 or 6 over
a period of time.
